THE BRAND

The name is derived from the founder Shireen Kadhim, As starting this brand was a near and dear project to her due to the fact that she is pursuing her hobby and is doing what she loves.

" SK is very personal to me, so it felt fitting to use my first name followed by my late father's name, which made it that more special"

"I have been drawing since I was a kid, and so I had to design and sketch out my own logo and  design the packaging. I choose the color green as one of the main brand colors because it wouldn't feel authentic otherwise"

THE FOUNDER

Art and creativity have always somehow intertwined with me, even as a kid I had big sketchbooks filled with everything, from landscapes to the weirdest dresses I have designed, so I guess I had a passion for clothing and fashion since then.

I learned how to hand sew in middle school with a basic needle and thread. Never really made a full garment, but embroidered things from time to time.

I consumed a lot of youtube content about sewing and making clothes in my leisure time, which is what made me want to buy a sewing machine. I got it as a birthday gift from my family in 2020. The first skirt I made didn't even fit, but you better believe I reused the fabric to make something else. Buying fabric was scary! so I up-cycled old clothing, and old bed sheets and turned them into garments I'd wear.

My family and friends are really why all this is happening, the support I got from them made me realize that I might be good at this. I started making clothing for myself and my friends. Started making my own patterns and gained confidence in my sewing skills as time passed.

Everyone kept telling me You need to sell these clothes and start a business, and so here I am sharing with you how it all began.

THE CLOTHING

I make sure to choose natural fibers for the garments. The fashion industry unfortunately has a huge carbon footprint, it's vital not to be a contribution to that.

"SLOW FASHION" is what it's called. Using high quality fabrics, and taking time making each piece, focusing on a lot of hand sewing techniques, and clean finishing, I want the garments to look good from the outside and the inside.

A technique known as french seaming is used to produce the garments. The raw edges of the fabric are incased within the seam, to leave you with a clean finish on the inside. no loose threads here!

This is the case for unlined garments. The fully lined ones are wraped in a smooth silk satin that doesn’t only feel comfortable when worn, but feels luxurious to put on.

this is what makes our pieces stand the test of time.

"I am basically making my dream wardrobe!, each and every piece is something I would love to have in my closet, and I hope you do too"
